Do I need to do anything in advance of an appointment?

It is helpful if you are prepared on the day for our engineer to carry out the repair or installation by making adequate space around the intended area. We’ll generally ask you for the make and model any appliances at the time of booking your appointment we are fully prepared before we arrive.

What is a Gas Safety Certificate?

A Gas Safety Certificate, also referred to as the landlord’s gas safety record, is required by law to be held for all rental accommodation in the UK where there are gas appliances present. The requirement is enshrined in the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998. A gas safety certificate can only be given by a registered Gas Safe engineer.

All AMD engineers are Gas Safe registered. For identification purposes we carry photo ID. AMD’s Gas Safe Registration Number is 504499.

What is a Pilot Light?

A pilot light is a small gas flame, usually natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas, which serves as an ignition source for a more powerful gas burner.

How do I know my boiler needs repairing?

The usual indications that your boiler may need attention are:

  • Smell of gas in the air
  • No HOT WATER
  • No Central Heating
  • Boiler is making loud noises
  • Boiler is not turning on
  • Flashing lights on the front of the unit

If you think you have a gas leak or can smell gas:

  • DO NOT smoke or light matches
  • DO NOT turn electrical switches on or off
  • DO open doors and windows
  • If you can do it safely, turn off the meter at the control handle unless the meter is in the cellar. The gas mains tap should be beside your gas meter.

Leave the house and phone the National Gas Emergency Number immediately on 0800 111 999.

Do not attempt to repair your gas appliance yourself unless you are competent to do so. All work to a gas appliance should be carried out by a registered gas safe engineer.

What if I want to cancel?

It’s an easy process, but it changes depending on what stage of the repair you’re at. If you’ve booked an appointment but decide to cancel and we haven’t started any work there is no charge.

If we’ve already carried out some work  but have had to make an additional appointment to complete works or order parts, you will not be liable for a cancellation charge but will be liable for costs of any works already completed and parts ordered.
